| - The Kingdom of Kongo (Portuguese: Reino do Congo; Kongo: Kongo dya Ntotila), also known as Kingdom of Congo, or simply Kongo, is a state in Central Africa. It is bordered by Zaire, Gabon, Angola, and the Gulf of Guinea. The Kingdom of Kongo was originally founded at the end of the 14th century, being a local power until the 19th century, when it became a vassal of the Portuguese Empire.the area became a overseas territory of the Portuguese Empire in 1914, being merged with the Portuguese West Africa. The Portuguese West Africa became independent in 1960, with the Kingdom of Kongo separating itself from it in 1966.
