There were several different devices used that could interface with a computer terminal via a wall socket, such as scomp links and rank cylinders. They were mainly known as the perfect interface for astromech droids, though some maintenance points were made at the level of MSE-6-series repair droids. At Yavin there was a specific terminal that hooked up to R2-D2 via a cable and downloaded the information about the Death Star plans. The "==>" button appears to translate to 'continue with the story', but can also be used to control the settings of the base itself.

Early terminals were inexpensive devices but very slow compared to punched cards or paper tape for input, but as the technology improved and video displays were introduced, terminals pushed these older forms of interaction from the industry. A related development was timesharing systems, which evolved in parallel and made up for any inefficiencies of the user's typing ability with the ability to support multiple users on the same machine, each at their own terminal.

| - A computer terminal was a device that was used to gain access to a computer's mainframe and communicate information. On the first Death Star, R2-D2 hacked into a computer terminal to stop Garbage Compactor 3263827. On Bespin, Cloud City's mainframe computer told R2-D2 that the Millennium Falcon's hyperdrive had been deactivated. Another part of a computer terminal was more usable by humanoids; it had a interface that displayed information and allowed input through the use of the user's fingers or through other means according to how the terminal was made. Obi-Wan Kenobi used such a terminal to disconnect a tractor beam from the Death Star I's main reactor, allowing the Millennium Falcon to escape.
- A computer terminal is an electronic or electromechanical hardware device that is used for entering data into, and displaying data from, a computer or a computing system. The function of a terminal is confined to display and input of data; a device with significant local programmable data processing capability may be called a "smart terminal" or fat client. A terminal that depends on the host computer for its processing power is called a thin client. A personal computer can run software that emulates the function of a terminal, sometimes allowing concurrent use of local programs and access to a distant terminal host system.
- A recurring device found in various laboratories and bases throughout Homestuck. They feature four screens arranged in a square with a house-shaped frame and a Mac-style keyboard (with the addition of a large [==>] key.) The terminals are seemingly used by the Exiles to monitor Sburb sessions and submit commands to the player, and they may serve more purposes, such as controlling the Skyship Base. A similarly-built terminal can be found underneath the Felt's mansion, locked inside [[Lord English|LFile:EnglishO.gifrd English]]'s vault, but with 12 monitors, used to command the trolls. The "==>" button appears to translate to 'continue with the story', but can also be used to control the settings of the base itself. The terminals are color-coded; the one in the Helipod Base, which sprouted from John's former location, is blue, while the one in the Skyship Base, which sprouted from Rose's former location, is purple. The MC Intermission and Hivebent terminals do not accept the "==>" command, as it doesn't have enough equals signs to match the twelve trolls. Slick is therefore forced to type an additional four equals signs before pressing the button each time he wishes to issue the "======>" command. Although it was previously thought that this indicated that the minimum number of players is four, Calliope and Caliborn's session has only two players, which has been confirmed as the minimum. It would appear that Caliborn and Calliope's session's "exile" is the author Andrew Hussie (although he outright states that he is not), further adding to the unconventionality of their session. They also act somewhat like Exiles for the B2 session. A long walk away from his meteor, Caliborn found a large radio tower with several monitors attached. After using keys to unlock a few of the monitors it's revealed that he can not only monitor the players of the B2 session, but the session's Jack Noir as well. These Computer Terminals appear to automatically shut off when the player ascends to god tier.
