Jed Ledbetter of Alabama attended a reunion of War Between the States veterans in Richmond in 1932 as he had a number of previous reunions. He was wrinkled and grey, as was any other Civil War veteran, but he looked alert and cheerful and the gleam in his eyes said he had been a prime forager when he had worn the grey. His unit in the war was the Eighth Alabama in the Army of Northern Virginia.
