However, during a televised preaching, Ryan admitted to not sharing the same views as his parents and walked out. His father disappeared and he lied to hid mother so he could earn redemption and follow God in his own way. Later, Seeley Booth explained to him that his father had a sex change and had been murdered. Ryan stated he believed everyone was the same under the surface and that he feels his father didn't tell him so he wouldn't shake his faith in God, fully accepting his father's decision. He took over his father's congregation following his death.
