The Caribbean War was a conflict fought in early 1991 to dislodge Venezuelan forces from Guyana, which they had invaded in August of 1990. A coalition of German-led TATO forces, along with Colombian support, defeated Venezuelan soldiers stationed in the Guyanese jungle within 100 hours of combat. It was a resounding victory for Germany, as it came in a formerly British state at the tail end of the Cold War. German Chancellor Helmut Kohl declared that his nation had "kicked the __ ghost."
