When Nithard was old enough, he joined his older brother Einhard at work in their father's smithy to learn the trade. They were especially interested in whatever tales their mother would tell since she knew and accompanied the heroic knight during the conflict. Nithard enthusiastically greeted Holger when he came into their village some thirty years after the war.
