The Cretan general election of 1973 was held on November 27, 1973 to elect the 9th Parliament of Crete. Voting occurred in all 50 constituencies on the Island with the highest turnout in the nation's history, council elections were held a day previously, the election saw the Far-Right political movement the "National Mataxist Party" resulting in a electoral landslide for the NMP. The Socialist government plagued by high inflation and a 12.3% unemployment rate caused voters to swing towards the former WWII veteran Konstantinos Anthes, later winning 34 of 50 seats in the House of Congress, along with a huge majority in local councils.
