| - The United States presidential election of 2016 was the 58th quadrennial American presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Voters selected 538 presidential electors who in turn, through the electoral college, elected a new president and vice president. The Republican ticket of businessman Donald Trump and Indiana Governor Mike Pence defeated the Democratic ticket of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.S. Senator from Virginia Tim Kaine by receiving votes from 304 of the presidential electors to Hillary Clinton's 228. Additionally, former Secretary of State Colin Powell received three electoral votes, while Ohio Governor John Kasich, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, former Representative Ron Paul, and Native American Activist Faith Spotted Eagle each received one.
