  • Michel Riesen (b. April 11th, 1979 in Oberbalm, Canton of Bern, Switzerland) is a professional ice hockey winger, playing in the Nationalliga A for HC Davos. He was selected in the first round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, 14th overall, by the Edmonton Oilers. Riesen was twice a member of Switzerland's World Junior team (1997, 1998) and a member of its World Championship team (1998). Riesen made his North American debut on the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs team in 1998-99. Riesen played three seasons in Hamilton with his best season being in 1999-00 when he registered 60 points (29G-31A). Highly regarded as the one Swiss with the best chances of making an impact at the NHL level, Riesen is sometimes called the "Swiss Miss", as he only played twelve games for the Oilers, during which stint he recorded a single assist, spending most of his time in North America with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL. He later returned home to play with Davos. Despite being one of the best Swiss players of the moment, Riesen is never selected to the Swiss National Team since 2001; this is due to disputes with Swiss National coach Ralph Krueger.
