In reality, they were a team of New Republic infiltrators made up of That Kresiik, Saradan Naran, Uutyyn, Brutuz, and four SpecForce troopers. Wiil-Hur-Krein led them to Peace Brigadier Turmo, who took them to Hope Citadel. They sabotaged the Peace Brigade attack on the planetary turbolaser and destroyed Hope Citadel. They were then evacuated in the Ynos. The Gruesome Gackles were named after gackle bats.
