Dasypus is a genus of armadillos in the family Dasypodidae. It is the only genus in the subfamily Dasypodinae. The genus is largely South American, although the best-known species, the nine-banded armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus), ranges as far north as the United States, where it is the only armadillo.
