They were often credited by the Rebel Navy as the storm commandos of the Imperial Navy, created to target the Alliance to Restore the Republic with guerrilla tactics and to respond to immediate threats before a normal fleet could be assembled. The Venom Guard saw action throughout the Galactic Civil War, and was later in service of the Imperial Remnant (as well as Grand Admiral Thrawn's confederacy and the Dark Empire.) They were not as well known and the Rebel Alliance Intelligence Agency, as well as the later New Republic Intelligence and Galactic Alliance Intelligence, had little information on them. It was led by Admiral Ozai Azulon, and an unidentified Imperial admiral who served as an aide. The unit had one starfighter squadron, Viper Squadron. Ace pilot Sozin Sakai flew the TIE Viper Eight in it. The squadron, along with the rest of the Guard, was headquartered aboard the heavily modified Imperial-class Star Destroyer Cerberus.
