| - Abbeyfield Estate is a council estate located along Abbeyfield Road in the Rotherhithe area of Southwark, London. The estate occupies a narrow strip of land between Abbeyfield Road to the west and Southwark Park to the east. Immediately to the south is the Pedworth Estate, and Bradley House forms part of the western boundary. Plans or the estate were approved by Bermondsey Metropolitan Borough Council in 1965 and the estate was completed in 1967 by Wates on the site of former terraced housing. The estate consists of three residential blocks and a community centre named the Bede Centre. All the buildings are constructed out of concrete with dark red brick facings, and all the blocks are connected by elevated concrete walkways, separating pedestrians from vehicles. The estate is dominated by Maydew House, which has 26 floors and stands 78 metres in height. To the north, it is connected to the 4 storey Damory House which consists of 35 flats. To the south, Maydew House is connected to the 2 storey Bede Centre, which in turn is connected to the 4 storey Thaxted Court, consisting of 24 flats. Major investment plans are being considered by Southwark London Borough Council for the estate. It is estimated that work to Maydew House will cost around £10 million whereas work to Thaxted Court and Damory House will cost around £500,000 plus £1 million for hot water and heating replacement if necessary. The demolition of Maydew House is also being considered. Any work to Maydew House will require rehousing of the existing tenants due to the invasive nature of the refurbishment works needed.
