UNITA is an initialism for (Portuguese) União Nacional para a Independência Total de Angola (English: National Union for the Total Independence of Angola), the second-largest political party in Angola. Founded in 1966, UNITA fought alongside the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) in the Angolan War for Independence (1961–1975) and then against the MPLA in the ensuing civil war (1975–2002).

It was in large part because of the United States' involvement in UNITA's armament, particularly it being cutting edge weaponry, that the Diamond Dogs got involved against UNITA, due to their suspecting that Cipher, more specifically XOF and Skull Face, had been responsible for their being armed, as the Diamond Dogs wanted revenge against the latter party due to their involvement in the destruction of their preceding organization, the Militaires Sans Frontières, nine years prior.
