The March 2009 General Election took place from 26/03/2009 following the dissolution of parliament at the end of the 5th Inevitable Government. Voters from across Ostentia took part in the electoral process, voting for both a prime ministerial candidate and a parliamentary candidate. The election saw an unprecedented level of chaos in the party system, with the governing Progressive Party collapsing and the Liberal Democrat Party splitting into two rival factions. The result of the government election was a tie, and after a period of negotiation a minority coalition government was formed between the DLSP and the Federalist Party, leading to the formation of the 2nd Cieran Government.
