Ukrainians in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) constitute the 7th most numerous nationality within the league. During the 2009-10 KHL season, 23 Ukrainian-born players participated in the competition. Alexei Zhitnik acted as captain of Dynamo Moscow, and is the only Ukrainian to have held this position in the league. He, along with Anton Babchuk, are the only two to have been named to the annual All Star Game. Six of these players have opted to compete for the Russian men's team internationally. According to HC Budivelnyk vice president Vyacheslav Zavalniuk, 13.5% of all players in the KHL have Ukrainian roots.
