Tornadoes also develop occasionally in southern Canada during the Northern Hemisphere's summer and somewhat regularly at other times of the year across Europe, Asia, and Australia. Tornadic events are often accompanied with other forms of severe weather, including strong thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail. There were 1,117 tornadoes reported in the United States in 2018, of which 1,021 have been confirmed. Worldwide, 99 fatalities have been reported: 48 in the United States, 21 in Mexico, 17 in Poland, nine in Vietnam, and four in Canada. 2019 saw near-average tornadic activity in the United States in terms of numbers, and slightly above-average numbers worldwide.
