Harrietsfield is located south of Halifax. Initially, the area was covered by the Spryfield Fire Department, and Spryfield continued to provide service after the department was formed. Trucks were initially stored in a backyard, then a basement garage until the first fire station was built in 1974. A new station replaced it in 1990. In 1996, Harrietsfield-Sambro and the other fire departments of Halifax County were amalgamated to form the Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Service.
