The Tachyonic Shield (or Tachyon Shielding) was an advanced form of shield technology utilized by starfleet in the late 24th century primarily for the Universe-class starships. It worked by forming a stable field contained beta-tachyons contained by electrostatic fields, which thereby increased shield strength by 7.5 times. It took nearly 2x the damage needed to collapse a standard deflector shield to collapse a Tachyonic Shield. Tachyonic Shields were a uncommonly used, but capable arrangement on starships in the mid and onward 25th century.

As all energy particles which impacted the surface were flung away at warp speeds due to the high erratic speeds of tachyons, believed to be at over 300,000 km/s. Tachyonic Shields were a uncommonly used, but capable arrangement on starships in the mid and onward 25th century.
