abstract
| - The D-Eta 1 Droid Starfighter was designed and manufactured by Kuat Systems Engineering for use in the Cylon Imperium, and later Crimson Empire. The D-Eta 1 is actually a modified version of the Eta-3 Starfighter, which was the successor to the more well known Eta-2 Actis-class. Aside from being upgraded with modern technology, the most noticeable difference of the D-Eta 1 is that it is piloted solely by a droid brain in keeping with the Imperium's pro-tech mentality. Since the D-Eta was the first droid-based design of the series, KSE reset the numbering of the design to “1” to signify the difference between it and the other fighters in the Eta series that require a pilot. Cheap and numerous, the D-Eta 1 served as the Imperium's primary starfighter before it was taken over by the Crimson Empire. It is analogous in many ways to the Galactic Empire's TIE Line Fighter. The droid starfighter lacks shields, and relies on swarming tactics, but its speed and power give it a definite edge over the Imperial fighter. The Cult of Shadow has also made use of this fighter after obtaining the design when they stole the Byyor Command.
