The USS Arkansas (CGN-41) was a United States Navy Virginia-class guided missile destroyer that was in operation between 1980 and October 26, 1982, when it was sunk during the Brazilian attack against Carrier Battle Group VI in the Amazon Delta. Struck with two direct bomb-tip torpedoes from the water and guided missiles to the top, the Arkansas sank within seven minutes and took 341 of its 475-man crew with it. It was the worst Naval loss for the United States since the Pacific War and the Arkansas remains the last US Navy vessel to be sunk by a hostile force in combat as of 2012 (along with the USS John Minnow, a supply ship destroyed in the same raid).
