Miriam Moses (13 November 1884-24 June 1965) was a local Progressive Party politician and feminist active in East End of London. Born in Whitechapel, she was the daughter of a Jewish immigrant tailor, Mark Moses. He was a magistrate and local politician, and when he died in May 1921 Miriam was elected to his vacant Spitalfields East seat on Stepney Borough Council. She was Mayor of Stepney in 1931-32. She stood down from the council at the 1934 election. A video here [1], her appearance on 'This is Your Life' is described here [2]; and an image of a blue plaque here [3].
