- Yo-Yo Ma is a cellist and virtuoso. He appeared on Arthur in "My Music Rules", where D.W. persuades him to play at the library. Binky anticipated that he would get into a huge fight with Joshua Redman because of their different music genres, but they got along nicely, playing a jazz remix of Crazy Bus. D.W. Read anticipated that she would dislike his music, but was pleasantly surprised. She referred to him incorrectly as "Yo Mama." He also appeared in "Elwood City Turns 100!" as one of the many celebrities Muffy invites to see the play. He did not speak in this appearance.
- Yo-Yo Ma is the 44th president of the United States. He is the first Asian-American President. He became president when Obama failed to properly recite his oath of office, and Ma happened to be on the screen at noon. His vice-president is a cello Episode #502 .
- He appeared on Sesame Street in the 1980s. In one sketch, Elmo sees Ma's cello and thinks it's a "big fiddle" that belongs to Mr. Snuffleupagus, in contrast to Elmo's "little fiddle" (a violin). When Bob and Yo-Yo Ma straighten things out, he and Elmo play music together. (EKA: Episode 2505) Ma also made a later appearance, where he was challenged by Hoots the Owl to make the same sounds with his cello that Hoots made with his saxophone. (EKA: Episode 3729) Ma contributed a "Barbecued Spareribs with Beer and Honey" recipe for Miss Piggy's 1996 cookbook, In the Kitchen with Miss Piggy.
