  • Douglas MacArthur (January 26, 1880 – April 5, 1959), popularly called "Papa Mac", was an American general who served as the 34th President of the United States, and the first and only Commander-General of the United States. MacArthur's ten year run as president is one of the longest in history. MacArthur's tenure as president has been described by historians as "dictatorial"; MacArthur oversaw, as General of the Army, the treaty that formed the German-American Axis, and strengthened the bond throughout the third decade of the Great War. MacArthur's policies cemented the right-wing ownership of the United States from 1948-1972.
