The Midgar Zolom appears as a gray serpentine shadow gliding across the marsh. Riding a chocobo makes the party fast enough to outrun it, although this can also be done on foot if the player is precise. After traversing the swamp for the first time, the player enters a one-time field location, named Marshes, where a Midgar Zolom is impaled on a tree, leading the party to speculate the feat was done by Sephiroth. If the player enters the menu the moment the scene is about to play they can skip it. Midgar Zolom will respawn endlessly.

  • Midgar Zolom is a regular enemy in Final Fantasy VII. It would appear in a swamp that the game wanted you to cross with a chocobo. Midgar Zolom was well-known for casting Beta, a powerful fire-based enemy skill that obliterates your party. He usually had the decency to knock a party member out of the battle first so that you don't instantly game over from it. Sometime later, Harmonica suggested that we should nominate Zolomy for the 2006 Contest and he became popular on Board 8.

He usually had the decency to knock a party member out of the battle first so that you don't instantly game over from it. Zolom became popular in Lettuce kefka's story Final Fantasy VII: ASCII Children, a topic retelling the story of FFVII with ASCII, with hilarious Results. When it came to the part of the Midgar Zolom, he created a ASCII that caught the eye of everyone. Everybody loved it, and then he became an ongoing character throughout the topic. Sometime later, Harmonica suggested that we should nominate Zolomy for the 2006 Contest and he became popular on Board 8. Unfortunately for some reason Midgar apparently did not have enough nominations to make the bracket. This is known because CJayC openly said he had nowhere near enough votes. Though we all know he was lying. However, due to the bracket being doubled in size in 2007, Zolomy managed to secure enough nominations to get in. He then let Cloud win in their first match (when he should've been against Sephiroth, because it would've been funnier that way).
