He rose to the rank of Jedi Master during his lifetime, and was a great war hero during, and following, the Great War. It was during this time that he became known as the Guardian of the Force. Compared to the Jedi Order's conventional thinking, Varys was considered somewhat of a renegade, a vagabond, to the Jedi Order, due to his own beliefs, which would later become incorporated as the core beliefs of the Guardians of the Force. While he still fought for the Jedi Order, and the Republic, and was a strong ally to both, his controversial approach to the Force made him a frequent topic of debate among the Jedi and the High Council, and some believed that, like his brother, he would fall to the dark side due to these beliefs.
