| - Inspector Gadget is a 1993 American animated comedy drama film based on the 1983 animated cartoon series of the same name. It starred Don Adams reprising his role as the title character, Inspector Gadget, along with Robert Loggia as Dr. Claw, Britney Spears as Penny, and Dabney Coleman as Chief Quimby. The film was written by Kerry Ehrin and Dana Olsen, directed by David Kellogg and George Scribner, and produced by Roger Birnbaum, Andy Heyward, Jordan Kerner, Aaron Meyerson. Disney acquired the rights to the Inspector Gadget franchise in 1987. Pre-production first started in 1989 during the release of The Little Mermaid. After completing Oliver & Company, George Scribner and David Kellogg were hired to direct the project. Inspector Gadget premiered in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 9, 1993 and was released in theatres worldwide on May 17. Upon it's release, the film saw positive acclaim from critics who praised the film's story and animation and Don Adams' reprisal of Inspector Gadget was well received by fans. The film grossed $605 million worldwide.
