(ST - The Lost Era novel: The Art of the Impossible) They divorced in 2333, and Kaldarren took custody of their son. He continued in his career, bringing Jason along on several archaeological trips, including one to the Valley of the Kings on Earth in 2335. In 2336, Kaldarren embarked on a mission to an unnamed planet near Cardassian space, which was believed to be the home of a pre-Hebitian culture, and also the rumored site of an interdimensional portal. The mission was led by Su Chen-Mai, a mercenary in the employ of the Asfar Qatala, who Kaldarren presented to his son as a former classmate at the Tarkava Institute. While there, Jason and a young Naxeran boy, Pahl, discovered an ancient tomb known as the Well of Souls, inhabited by non-corporeal lifeforms calling themselves dithparu, or Night Spirit. Kaldarren prevented the dithparu leader, Uramtali, from possessing Pahl by allowing it to possess him instead, and then letting himself be buried alive within the tomb.
