Three DNFs hampered his finishes, only cracking the top-thirty just twice. But those two runs were solid: a 15th at Sharon and a 6th place showing at Rochester. McGinley's final race would come in the 1955 season, a solo start at Altamont. Starting 21st in the field, McGinley completed all but twenty laps to finish a solid 12th place.
