Jules Grogrande was a baker. He and his wife Leontine left Paris and moved to America where they owned and operated a bakery. While his wife operated the storefront, Monsieur Jules did all of the baking. Since he prided himself on the fact that his edibles were baked fresh every day, he went to bed every night at sunset so that he could rise at 3 a.m. to begin baking. One year, on the 4th of July, Monsieur Jules decided to bake a life-sized gingerbread man. In mixing the ingredients, he included a bowl of the Great Elixir and when the man was fully baked, he came to life.
