As with many other religions in the world, Xiani outlines a specific type of marriage practice and arrangement. In Xiani, marriage is polygamous with polygamy and very limited polyandry serving as one of the core tenents of Xiani. Marriage may be between principal spouses or ordinary concubines, or a combination of the two, with the latter often practiced by nobles, wealthy citizens, and sometimes priests granted they choose to marry.

Marriage may be between principal spouses or ordinary concubines, or a combination of the two, with the latter often practiced by nobles, wealthy citizens, and sometimes priests granted they choose to marry. A married Xianioki household is known as a uvoka, or "unity", and one uvoka may consist of several men and women, with the former only consisting of three men at any given time, and the latter of any number of women. Homosexual relationships are totally villified under the teachings of Xiani, and not recognized as a marital group. Usually, marriage arrangements are set up by elder members in a uvoka; marriage is considered a distinct form of romantic love, between a man and a woman.
