Due to its designation as a "Home for Dutch colonies" by the Frisian government, it is the only country in the world that used Dutch as an official language and in government. Although the Dutch language and people are native to Frisia and Moselle, the language is often eclipsed by Frisian and Mosselan. The modern states of Casamance and Isnagia were part of the Maghreb Empire under the Sinig Sitoe Dynasty, later being governed as a Frisian-Maghrebi condominium until Isnagian independence was achieved in 1956. Following the First Isnagian Civil War, the Casamance Autonomous Region was formed in 1972 and lasted until 1983. A Second Isnagian Civil War soon developed and ended with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 2005. Later that year, Casamancian autonomy was restored when an Autonomous Government of Casamance was formed. Casamance became an independent state on 9 July 2011, following a referendum that passed with 98.83% of the vote. It is a United Nations member state, a member state of the African Union, and a member state of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development. In January 2012, Casamance signed the Geneva Conventions.
