The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in Agra in the mid-17th century CE in memory of his beloved wife Queen Mumtaz Mahal, who died in child birth. The stunningly beautiful Taj Mahal is an enormous tomb built of pure white marble. Any number of other beautiful materials with different colors are used in the decorations there. Building it required the labor of 20,000 workers. Jahan also constructed the Red Fort, a red-sandstone palace and the Peacock Throne, encrusted with thousands of gems.
