* University of Denver
* University of Wisconsin In its third attempt, the Wisconsin Badgers won their first national championship, defeating Denver 4-2. Denver's participation in the tournament, however, was later vacated by the NCAA Committee on Infractions. Therefore, the Pioneers did not officially participate in the 1973 Frozen Four, despite a second place finish.
