rdfs:comment
| - A beautiful kind of decoration applied to plain surfaces, and derived from the Middle Ages. Through his later period Wedg- wood used diaper — or as some might call it, chequer«work — in many variations, for the ornamentation of his ware, more especially for small vases, dejeuners, and tea -sets. His diapers stand generally out in relief; the leafage or quatrefoils being white, and the minute boss or central ornament of the body-colour, or else a contrasting colour. When plain squares intervene, his diapers have much the appearance of dice- work. See for examples " Life of Wedgwood," vol. ii. pp. 505–517.
