Conan and Shimata-Kawa Travel across the barren wasteland of the Desert of Yondo as the blind man tells the barbarian about the Talisman of Tolometh. They approach the City of Yondo, which mysteriously appeared months ago and turned the grasslands to desert. Near their destination, they hear the voice of Welyn. She has been trapped in sorcerous sands by the Patriarch of Yondo, and Conan is unable to free her as she turns into marble when she tries to escape. Conan fights off a hideous, monstrous beetle-creature, and, frustrated, pulls Welyn's marble form from the sands. She slowly returns to flesh as an armored warrior appears and attacks Conan. After a vicious fight, Conan manages to kick the warrior into the flying beetle, and both fall into the magical sands and revert to their true for
