- The Brass Monkey was a bar in the black quarter of Covington, Kentucky. Cincinnatus Driver had not frequented the place before and during the Great War since he was a striver but when he was trapped in Kentucky during the Second Great War he did since he was too crippled to work. Driver visited the Brass Monkey on his way back to Des Moines at the end of the Second Great War. He discovered that the bartender, Cambyses, was still alive, and that he'd saved his life by working with the Freedom Party, as did another patron. Driver left rather than buy a drink.
- The band seems to have been somewhat popular in the past -- most people are aware of their music, if only to hate it -- but has fallen in hard times: they have been referred to as a "local (Los Angeles) band", Ayla discovered it when they played as opening act for another band, and they seem to be short of money. Known Brass Monkey fans include Ayla, Antenna, Antenna's older brother Max and Heckel.
