  • Glenn McArthur is the current President of the United States in a parallel universe very similar to our universe. He was sworn into office January 20, 2005, after a campaign in which he outlined sweeping proposals to reform America's public schools, transform our national defense, provide tax relief, modernize Social Security and Medicare, and encourage faith-based and community organizations to work with government to help Americans in need. Prior to his Presidency, President McArthur served for two terms as a member of the United States Senate representing the state of California, where he earned a reputation as a fiscal conservative, social moderate, and economic libertarian who shaped public policy based on the principles of limited government, personal responsibility, strong families, and local control. While in the Senate, President McArthur served on the Committees on Foreign Relations, Armed Forces, Finance, and Appropriations. He also served as the Senate Majority Leader. Glenn Christian McArthur was born in New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn. His father, Daniel, was a public school teacher in the New York City School District. His mother, Lucy, was a Puerto Rican community activist and a devoted parent. After the birth of his younger brother, Gary, four years later, President McArthur's life took a dramatic turn. His father relocated the family to southern California, to farm orange groves in a small town called Santa Paula, California. Daniel and Lucy McArthur wanted their boys to grow up outside the pressures and politics of a sprawling urban scene. In Santa Paula, President McArthur learned the value of hard work and responsibility, laboring during the summers alongside his friends in the citrus groves. He volunteered at the public library, entrenching himself in the history of his home state. In these formative years, he gained an appreciation for family and community, which he carries with him to this day. After graduating from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in Economics and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve via the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps, President McArthur attended Yale Law School. He then returned to Santa Paula to serve the community as a prosecutor. Local townspeople had more in mind for their native son, however. He was elected City Councilmember in a write-in victory. He served one term on City Council, overseeing numerous community projects, including the refurbishment of the California Oil Museum where he'd spent many afternoons as a teenager. Shortly thereafter, he sought and won a seat in the California State Assembly. Throughout Ventura County, he was quickly known as a forceful advocate for families, farmers, the environment, and California. During Operation Desert Storm, President McArthur's reserve unit was called to active duty and he was later awarded the Silver Star for saving the lives of three of his fellow marines during combat. He returned to Santa Paula, where he decided to broaden his scope of community service by running for the United States Senate. When elected to the Senate in 1992, he won with the highest number of votes for any Senate candidate at the time. Skilled as a local politician, in the Senate President McArthur applied his sense of humanitarian responsibility and his community values to the national arena. He has fought to promote tax relief that provided rebate checks and lower tax rates for everyone who pays income taxes in America, helping workers keep more of their hard-earned money. He has worked to improve public schools by raising standards, requiring accountability, and strengthening local control. He continually supported agricultural programs, such as his "Freedom to Farm" initiative to protect the rights of small farmers against bureaucratic subsidies. On November 2, 2004, he became the first sitting U.S. Senator to be elected to the Presidency since 1960 when he was elected with 406 electoral votes, 40 states and a total of 55.3 percent of the popular vote. Since taking office, President McArthur has worked with the Congress to create an ownership society and build a future of security, prosperity, and opportunity for all Americans. President McArthur has taken unprecedented steps to protect our homeland and create a world free from terror. The President is confident that by helping build free and prosperous societies, the nation and its friends and allies will succeed in making America more secure and the world more peaceful. He has increased pay and benefits for the U.S. military and is working to save and strengthen Social Security and Medicare. He is also committed to ushering in a responsibility era in America. Because President McArthur believes the strength of America lies in the hearts and souls of our citizens, he has supported programs that encourage individuals to help their neighbors in need. President McArthur is married to Alexandra Garcia McArthur, a former U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, and they have one son, Kevin. The McArthur family also includes two dogs, Jimbo and Huck, and a cat, Josey.
