Typhoon Melody, also known as Hurricane Melody, was a long lived category 1 hurricane/typhoon that had its origins in the central pacific form a tropical disturbance that developed on July 22nd, before steadily organizing as it moved past Hawaii, becoming Tropical Depression Two-C on July 26th. At 0000 UTC on July 28th, the depression had a burst of deep convection, and was upgraded to a tropical storm by the CPHC, being named as Melody by the agency as it moved towards the International Dateline, leaving the basin at 1800 UTC on July 29th.

Upon entering the West Pacific, Melody was able to organize, becoming a typhoon at 0000 UTC on July 31st, whilst on a southwestward tracking, before looping around a developing ridge and turning to the north-northeast by , then the northeast and east by 0600 UTC on August 1st, weakening to a tropical storm as it re-entered the central Pacific.
