- Robert Pine is an American actor who plays Gerry Finnegan on Castle. Born Granville Whitelaw Pine in New York (1941), he graduated pre-med from Ohio Wesleyan in 1963. Realizing that he didn't want to continue his education or become a doctor, Pine's college roommate suggested he go into acting. After signing a contract with Universal Studios in 1964, a representative of the studio suggested that he change his name, so Pine chose "Robert". He married Gwynne Gilford in 1969, and has two children, Katherine Pine and Chris Pine.
