The 1961 World 600 Qualifier #2 was a Grand National (now Nextel Cup) event held at Lowe's Motor Speedway on May 21, 1961. Like the 150s at Daytona, this race was to set up the field for the 1961 World 600. Curtis Turner had dominated the race, leading the first 52 laps before he crashed out while leading. That left the race between Junior Johnson and Joe Weatherly. It was Weatherly leading the last few circuits in route to a six-carlength victory on Johnson. Eventual season champ Ned Jarrett was in the other twin. Stats
