- Beneath the Ministry of Defense are three subordinate military departments: Department of Research and Development, Department of Strategic Information Services/Tactical Intelligence Division, Department of Veterans' Affairs and Department of Logistics. In addition, the Republic Intelligence Agency (RIA) is subordinate to the Defense Ministry.

At the beginning of 16 ABY, the Council began to focus more on the joint formation of strategies with the leaders of the New Republic military, in the hopes that a more broad view of the battlefield would help turn the tide of the war. Under the behest of Del Marx, it would conduct an inquiry into the actions of the 224th Marine Battalion during Operation Sudden Fury. Upon the election of Senator Al'Dira to the ministry, an official committee hearing was called to scrutinize the Military and assess its current condition in hopes of rectifying any immediate issues.

After arriving, however, the Mandalorian forces disappeared and it was revealed that it had been a trick made by Zayne Carrick along with Cassus Fett in order for Karath to aid the Jedi in defeating the Crucible.
