The campaign was conceived by car-poolers in Purakaunui. Following interest from other communities to the south of Dunedin, such as Mosgiel, the campaign is developing a wider scope. Other campaigners in New Zealand are promoting the re-instatement of long-distance express trains, such as the Southerner, in contrast with the local/regional focus of Get the Train.
