Alexia Vassiliou, often going professionally by her first name Alexia, is a Cypriot singer, composer and activist. She studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and has worked with many international music stars over the course of her career. At the age of 16, she started her career as a member of the group Island. They went on to be Cyprus' very first representatives at the Eurovision Song Contest 1981 in Dublin with the song Monika. Finishing in 6th place, it was an impressive debut and remains one of the best results in their country's history.
