Isokyrians (ᛁᛇᛟᚲᛁᚱᛖᚾ, Isokiren) are an ethnic group native to Isokyria. Isokyrians are defined by their shared cultural heritage and allegiance to the Isokyrian state. There are two subgroups of Isokyrians, British-Isokyrians and Russian-Isokyrians. British-Isokyrians refers to people who primarily have British ancestry rather than Isokyrian. They usually have English, Scottish, Welsh, or Irish names and use English naming customs. Russian-Isokyrians refers to persons who have predominately Russian ancestry. This definition is less clear as Russian settlement of Isokyria occurred so long ago (near the end of the 16th century) and thus genetic mixing of 'pure' Isokyrians and Russians had more time to occur. Many Isokyrians who are part-Russian may be unaware of their ancestry. This fact can

This definition is less clear as Russian settlement of Isokyria occurred so long ago (near the end of the 16th century) and thus genetic mixing of 'pure' Isokyrians and Russians had more time to occur. Many Isokyrians who are part-Russian may be unaware of their ancestry. This fact can be obscured further as most Russian-Isokyrians use Nordic names and naming customs, as opposed to British-Isokyrians, which have retained English names and naming customs. The Isokyrian War of Independence and Isokyrian Civil War both radically changed what it meant to be an Isokyrian. A surge of nationalism swept the islands following the end of Britain's four-century rule of Isokyria. No longer subjects of the British crown, Isokyrians began rediscovering their cultural heritage, which was hastened after the Nororist victory. The Isokyrian language was revived and reformed, using the elder futhark alplabet. Authors such as Evin Jonsson explored and helped to establish the modern Isokyrian identity. The book Der Nafrin, written by Jonsson, was an influential piece of Isokyrian literature that explored Isokyrian history, culture, way-of-life, and society, During all of this, British-Isokyrians were left in a puzzling position, as most of them were born on the islands and whose families had lived there for centuries, but were not considered "true" Isokyrians because they spoke English and because of their ancestry. Discrimination against them was committed by both individuals and the government. They were denied economic opportunities and social mobility became limited, cementing them as a permanent underclass within Isokyrian society, a designation that is only today beginning to change. Discrimination against Russian-Isokyrians was much less intense, as they had more time to assimilate into Isokyrian culture to the point where the difference was negligible.
