It is, in fact, a four-foot prune, created by the magic of Insta-Grow Pills. Bunsen explains that the pills can make anything grow, but the effect is sadly temporary. Later in the film, as Kermit's showdown with Doc Hopper reaches its climax, Animal grows to an enormous size, busting through the roof of Bunsen and Beaker's workshop. He's taken the Insta-Grow Pills, and frightens away Hopper and his hired gunmen.
