One day, a young peasant boy came to the school armed with his own sword. Before the child could gain entry to the school, the guard stopped him and asked why he carried a weapon forbidden to his kind. When the boy bowed and insisted that he wished to learn the way of bushido, the man took offence, wondering how he dare speak to a samurai like that. Grabbing his blade and slicing it in an instant, the young child managed to dodge the attack before kicking him and felling the large man with the hilt of his own blade. The commotion invited the attention of the sensei who, upon learning what had happened, invited the child to study under him.

The commotion invited the attention of the sensei who, upon learning what had happened, invited the child to study under him. It is unknown what happened to the guard after this; he was either relieved of his duties for wantonly attacking a child, or was allowed to continue working after his good effort. There is also a chance he voluntarily left his job, unwilling to work for a school that allowed peasant children to study. Either way, he was never seen again after the confrontation.
