In 2364, Captain Jean-Luc Picard flew to the Enterprise-D aboard the Galileo, piloted by Lieutenant Natasha Yar, after he assumed command of the ship. (TNG: "The Naked Now" , "All Good Things..." ) The name Galileo was a homage by the writers to the shuttlecraft from The Original Series, which was in turn named after Galileo Galilei. (Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 293) ) When the Galileo was first seen in the episode "The Naked Now", it was as part of a set of diagrams. The diagram showed dorsal and port profiles of the shuttle. At the time, the Galileo was a type 7 shuttlecraft with the shuttle number 07.
