Episode 4: Turnabout Succession is the final episode in the video game Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. This episode introduces the Jurist System, in which the verdict is decided by the consensus of six average citizens. As such, this episode features the only jury trial in the Ace Attorney universe to date, previous episodes having featured bench trials in which the judge decided the verdict. Central to this episode is Phoenix Wright's final trial prior to his disbarment, which took place seven years before Apollo Justice became a lawyer. The title of this episode can refer to many aspects of succession in the story. Apollo succeeds Phoenix; the new Jurist System succeeds the previous one; and Zak Gramarye, and eventually his daughter Trucy, obtains the rights to Magnifi Gramarye's magic.

Apollo succeeds Phoenix; the new Jurist System succeeds the previous one; and Zak Gramarye, and eventually his daughter Trucy, obtains the rights to Magnifi Gramarye's magic. This episode contains many instances in which the characters seem to break the fourth wall, but do not in the strictest sense of the term. During the Jurist System portion of the game, Phoenix Wright seems to speak to the player, and near the end of the trial, Apollo Justice, Trucy Wright and Klavier Gavin turn toward the player to indicate the existence of cameras. In reality, the player is placed into the perspective of the jury (Jurist No. 6 in particular), giving a sense of player participation in the actual Jurist System process.
