- Little is known of the smaller variant used by Covenant troops to breach UNSC vessels, though the larger variant has been seen close-up. The charge's appearance is that of a long bulbous shape with many spikes protruding from it. It has a central control hub located at the top of the bomb. It utilizes the annihilation of matter and antimatter to create a massive explosion. Nearly 100% of the energy in the matter is released in the explosion, in contrast to the mere 7% released by a UNSC nuclear fusion warhead.
- In 2269, after the USS Enterprise became engulfed by an unidentified cosmic cloud, the ship was approached by several objects composed of highly charged gaseous antimatter, which caused a considerable strain on the Enterprise's shields.

| - In 2269, after the USS Enterprise became engulfed by an unidentified cosmic cloud, the ship was approached by several objects composed of highly charged gaseous antimatter, which caused a considerable strain on the Enterprise's shields. In attempt to lessen the objects drain on the shields, Captain James T. Kirk ordered Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott to "prepare the shields for an antimatter charge" that, when fired, temporarily pushed the objects away from the Enterprise. This did not prove to be enough, as the objects came back towards the Enterprise, causing Kirk to order engineering to "double the charge," and finally removing the objects from the shields and their threat on the ship. (TAS: "One of Our Planets Is Missing") In 2365, USS Enterprise-D Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge improvised and created photon torpedoes by increasing antimatter charges of the Pakled ship Mondor. Prior to the modifications, the charges were considered as limited armaments. They were not even powerful enough to blow up asteroids, and did not present any danger to the Galaxy-class Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Samaritan Snare" ) In the final draft script of ENT: "Acquisition", Commander Charles Tucker claims to a group of Ferengi pirates who are desperately trying to get through a door to Bio-Matter Resequencing that Captain Jonathan Archer "booby trapped [it] with antimatter charges." This was changed to Tucker supposing, in the actual episode, that Archer may have booby trapped the door, though Tucker doesn't mention how this was or might have been technically done.
